Facility in the foot joint notes can be tricky, in part because you are relying on refined and accurate movement of your pinky – a finger that isn’t particularly flexible. Here are a few tips. When moving between D# to B, aim for the space between the B and C rollers, being sure that pinky lies flat on C and C# keys. When moving from D# to C or C#, the pinky should slide back and forth, led by wrist movement. When moving between B and C, the pinky slides back and forth, led by wrist movement with the wrist low and the fingers of right hand relatively flat. C#-B is always tricky. Here, keep your wrist at its lowest and fingers of the right hand at their flattest. Just below the joint, your pinky should rest on the C# key, moving at the joint to depress both the B and C keys.
